Today I am going to cover one of the oldest, if not oldest, Forex companies, IG. The firm is founded in 1974 and their headquarters are located in London, United Kingdom.

IG is also very popular broker in the world. So you can be sure that I did my best during writing this IG review. I think you are excited, aren’t you? Let’s begin!

There are two divisions of IG. One of them is IG index Ltd. The company focused on spread betting. The other company IG Markets Ltd. which deals with CFD, share dealing and stocks.

Since spread betting isn’t something that my blog interested, the IG i will talk about is actually IG Markets Ltd.

Is IG scam or legit? What are the advantages and disadvantages of the broker? Can you open a IG demo account? Which regulations does IG subject to? How quick and helpful was IG customer service? Are IG payment methods adequate?

You can get all the answers if you continue reading this IG review.

Just like I mentioned in the first paragraph of this IG review article, the broker is really popular. They claim that they have 195,000 clients worldwide in over 15,000 markets. Also 7.6 million trading enthusiasts visit the website of the broker every month.

Traders from United Kingdom dominates the percentage of visitors to the site with 28%. However the visitors from the other countries in top 5 (France, Spain, Italy, Australia) makes up another 28% of the visitors to the website.

License & Regulation

IG is licensed and regulated by the FCA (Financial Conduct Authority). IG Markets ltd. has a license with 195355 registration number. But what is this FCA that everybody talks about?

FCA is a watchdog based on the United Kingdom. The foundation is respected worldwide. Because it has really strict rules. For example the FCA regulated forex broker has to prove a minimum capital of €730,000 in an account which is independent than funds of the customers.

Also customers of the brokers which are regulated by FCA can benefit from Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). The compensation scheme protects the money of customers until their trading money reach £50,000.

But if FCA license such protective, why many brokers are looking for ASIC license or off-shore licenses? There is a reason for that. It was wet dream of many brokers to get FCA license until the new ESMA (European Securities and Markets Authority) measures.

After the new decisions, the brokers who are regulated by watchdogs which are subject to ESMA, couldn’t apply a leverage ratio more than 1:30.

But, a lot of Forex traders are actually risk takers. Why would they choose a broker that offer 1:30 leverage ratio while some other brokers offer them 1:1000 leverage? So that’s why FCA license getting less popular.

IG has many licenses in other countries for their units there. Beside the FCA license from the United Kingdom, they have BaFin (The Federal Financial Supervisory Authority) license in Germany, FINMA (The Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority) license in Switzerland, ASIC (Australian Securities and Investments Commission) license in Australia, FMA (Financial Markets Authority) license in New Zealand, DFSA (Dubai Financial Services Authority) license UAE (United Arab Emirates), JFSA (Japan Financial Services Agency) license in Japan and finally MAS (Monetary Authority of Singapore) license in Singapore.

Finally NFA (National Futures Association) of United States led IG to operate in US Forex market as 16th October, 2018.

Account Types & Spreads

When it comes to this section of IG review, I have to point out that IG demo account is available. If you don’t trust yourself or the broker for a reason, the demo account can provide experience to you.

But I have to warn that the real trading psychology is always different than demo trading. No matter how much you train yourself in demo account, it won’t be same as real experience.

When it comes to real accounts of IG review, there are two different types of account. One is standard account. There is no minimum deposit requirement and the maximum leverage is 1:30 under new ESMA measures. Average spread is 0.6 pips.

The other account is DMA. The leverage is also 1:30. Although the average spread is lower in DMA account with 0.2 pips, there is a commission fee $3-$5.

Trading Platforms

When it comes to trading platforms, I can’t show the broker as a mediocre in this IG review, because they are really good.

For example if you don’t want to download anything, it’s okay. You can open their web-based PC platform. They have a good web platform, mobile apps that won awards, and excellent third-party technology.

You can integrate your API (Application Programming Interface) to the trading platform.

Besides these, of course they have MT4 which is, as you know, standard trading platform of Forex industry.

Deposit & Withdrawal methods

If you are a client based on United Kingdom, you can deposit and withdraw your money using credit /debit card or via wire transfer. However for other customers there are Paypal, China UnionPay, BPay as e-wallet systems.

Customer Service

If you wonder customer service of the company, I can say there isn’t any problem with their service. You can reach their employees easily.

Awards

In this part of IG review, I am going tell you about recent awards of IG. Some of you may consider as unimportant, but I think awards important as they can convince you if you already think trading with the broker.

They have many awards from various foundations. For example, they’ve got ‘Best CFD provider’ from Shares awards 2017.

Also the firm has got four different awards from online personal wealth awards 2018. They are ‘best overall wealth provider’, ‘best trading support’, ‘best spread betting provider’ and finally ‘best stocks and share ISA provider’

There is more, the company has also two awards from ADVFN international finance awards of 2018. They are ‘best multiplatform provider’ and ‘best finance app’.

IG-reviewConclusion

After 40 years of experience in Foreign exchange industry, IG is a very trustworthy broker. I would deposit my money without hesitating.

However if you hesitate still, no problem because as I mentioned above, there is no minimum deposit requirement. So you can deposit small amount of money for a start with a little step.

Their spreads are quite low. Trading platforms are also satisfying.

The awards are also proving my statements above. So I can easily advise you to trade with IG.
